Welcome to Sandford Hill Detachment's Website

The Army Cadet Force is a Voluntary Youth Organization. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and provides progressive and challenging military, adventurous and community activities for young people between the ages of 12 - 18.
At Sandford Hill we help you to achieve success in life and to push yourself to the limit. The type of training offered helps to build self confidence, teamwork and leadership, all of which can be practically applied to everyday life.
We parade two nights a week (Mondays and Thursdays), but you will find that you have the opportunity to spend at least one weekend a month at a training camp. All equipment and clothing is provided free of charge on a temporary loan - all you need to provide is a pair of boots.
When you join the ACF as a new recruit you will start in basic training. Having completed this you will then progress through the training levels from one star to master cadet. This ultimately leads to a BTEC award worth four GCSE's.
As part of your training, you will take part in many activities including Shooting, Fieldcraft, Skill at Arms, Map and Compass, First Aid, Drill and Survival Skills. Sandford Hill is renound for our shooting abilities, you will be instructed to the highest standard of shooting - this then leads to national level competitions. We also have some of the best instructors for field craft (running about, getting dirty, learning how to attack enemy entrenchments) who compete in major competitions every year, you could join them.
Then there is adventurous training which offers you an exciting opportunity to put into practice some of the skills that you will have developed whilst training at the detachment. Mountain walking, Canoeing, Rock Climbing/Absailing are amongst a large number of adventurous training activities undertaken by Cadets from Sandford Hill Detachment.
Interested? Don't just take our word for it, come along and be one of our next senior cadets.
